William's Goals - as of May 2015
We set goals so we know how where William is in his growth and how we want to challenge him to reach his potential. We update these goals using the Social Development Model created by The Autism Treatment Center of America and in with the help of their teachers.
1. Interact with us in more sophisticated ways. Some examples include:
- say or indicate greetings ("hi" or a wave)
- following instructions
- following a specific schedule with breaks and recess
- helping to clean up
- dressing himself
- more sophisticated physical participation (e.g. less sitting back and listening; more use of his hands and body in our activities
2. Testing for comprehension
- Asking questions after he learns something to see what he is learning
- Showing him how kids his age respond to questions in school
3. Participating more in outside social activities
- Get comfortable in different community settings
- Actively participate with instructor
- Actively participate with other kids
4. Handling social situations with more ease and flexibility
- Being able to follow a set schedule
- Waiting for breaks to “release” his energy
- Taking breaks that don’t involve going to the bathroom
- Showing us when he is almost ready to “be done” so that we can finish an activity and then give him a break before he realizes he needs it now! This is for horseback riding safely, but also applies to other activities
